So. I'm watching my daughter utterly destroy my brand new dc's. Never even been worn, and she's chewing on them. Stupid Teething Phase, as I call it. STP. I'm sure it's an acronym for something else as well.

Despite destroying my shoes, she makes me glow inside with pride. She's very smart, almost too smart for her own good, and she is such a happy, exuberant spirit. Nothing will keep her down no matter what. Such blissful innocence is something we can all only dream of, as adults, and earlier.

Having a child changes everything. You don't think you can handle it at first, especially being young (I was 17 when I had my child). You don't think you can up until you hold them for the first time. There's such a sense of relief, seeing them there, alive and well, that no one can describe to you; you have to have gone through it to understand.

You alter your own schedule and life for a child, without even realizing the little things you used to love oh-so-much are no longer the forerunner of important. You just stop once and while and go "Huh. Well. I wish I could still do that." And then forget about it and move on. It's the strangest thing in the world.

But it is possible to make the transition from child to parent overnight. I've done it. And it's amazing.
